The pine-beamed family room, and classic Martha’s Vineyard finishing touches such as a 19th century whaling-boat model and wicker chairs makes for a homey, warm feeling throughout.
My first socially distant dinner out called for my favorite summer Gal Meets Glam dress. My friend and I headed out to Boston’s North End and had Italian at Trattoria II Panino. It was a wonderful dinner, we sat outside and I felt perfectly safe in regards to COVID-19 precautions. Our waiter was so kind, and it was really nice to get out and support one of the many restaurants that have opened up in the area.
Other than looking at vintage photographs from fashion magazines or looking at the recent collections of my favorite, go-to brands such as Ralph Lauren, Chanel, or Miu Miu, I’m avidly scrolling through Pinterest for fashion inspiration. My favorite find that I most recently came across are veils, but not just for brides.
I just started The Politician this week, and I would be lying if I said the clothes weren’t the main attraction (for me at least.) Think 60’s mod meets preppy cool meets femininity. It’s all Miu Miu, Chanel, Dior, and Gucci ladies, with hints of Marc Jacobs, Maje, and Zara.
Whenever I’m home in Massachusetts I love to go to Cranes Estate in Ipswich. Not only is the home a dream, but the grounds are magical and every time I go I spend hours exploring. The rolling hills in front of the castle lead to a beautiful view of the ocean, and there is a gorgeous gardens. The garden is a whimsical escape, and this time the light was perfect. My friends and I could’ve spent the entire day just sitting in the garden reading and frolicking.
I fully embrace summer style when the season comes around. I grew up going to the beach almost every day of the summer and have had my fair share of cute, and not so cute, swimwear. I’ve been gravitating towards high-waisted styles, I find them to be the most flattering, but also love one or two low waisted bottoms as well. A one-piece is très chic, and great if I’m going out on the paddle board. Finding styles and prints that best suit you is what’s going to make your swimwear last from season to season, rather than shopping a trend and quickly getting bored.
After several months of rarely putting on makeup and planning an outfit, this week a few friends and I headed out to Newburyport for a picnic by the water. One of my favorite things to do in the summer is sit by the water, it’s so refreshing and relaxing.
Silk, chiffon, cotton or linen, the scarves I have are my most versatile accessory for the summer season. Tied around your neck, in your hair, around the handles of your handbag, or around your head as seen on actresses like Audrey Hepburn and Grace Kelly- there are endless ways to wear your scarves. Below I’m sharing all of my favorite summer prints and colors in what I would say, is one of the best accessories every women should have!
This week I have discovered so many incredible new brands owned by Black people that I’m excited to shop now and in the future. I’ve found that over the years the statement, unique pieces I want to purchase aren’t going to be at the usual stores I frequent, and have been actively making a list of unique designers and shops since. If you love colors and prints, you’re in for a treat with these brands!
The events of the past month, the past year, forever, are outrageously disgusting. Black people’s human rights have been discriminated and taken away from for forever. As a white women living in America and having this platform, although small, I recognize that I would be doing wrong and stepping onto the wrong side of history if I didn’t speak up.
Nothing fills up my fashion appetite more than combing through vintage photographs from magazines. Vogue is home to many of my favorite photographers work, and the summer issues have inspiring shots. I’m always looking for inspiration with my wardrobe as the seasons start, and almost always it’s from vintage Vogue. Although this year our summer may be looking different, the inspiration doesn’t have to change.
There’s no denying that the effects of COVID-19 are going to, and already are, hitting the fashion industry hard. Not only have consumer’s buying habits changed due to the lockdown, once we all start going outside again I truly believe things are going to be different, and some things forever. While we may need to, or be recommended, to wear a mask and gloves for some time, I think there will be less consumption of fast fashion and “trend” buying. There’s lots to talk and think about regarding people’s buying habits after quarantine, but today I’m going to be discussing the topic of dressing for the new normal once we all start to head back into our “normal” lives.
Midge’s looks on The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel are absolutely fabulous, and her summer outfits have to be my favorite. The swing dresses and glamorous hats are the perfect retro, 1950’s inspiration I need for my summer wardrobe. After all, the 1950’s is where I get lots of my fashion inspiration from.
Lately I’ve been loving the look of a statement top and pair of jeans. For the spring and summertime I think it’s a chic look perfect for not only day but night as well. When the weather begins to get warmer I don’t layer as much, so a statement top does the trick, unless I accessorize with a light-weight scarf.
When it hits mid-May although it isn’t summer for another month, it starts to feel like it. Classes are finishing up for those who are in school, and now summer is fully on my mind. We’re all not sure how this summer is going to turn out, whether we’ll be able to hit the beach or if we’ll be inside. But summer shoes are starting to show up on e-commerce sites, and I’m sharing my favorites below.
Wearing a jumpsuit is a fun way I like to switch up my wardrobe. Somedays I don’t feel like wearing a dress, and I have a view jumpsuits in my wardrobe I love to wear in the summer. They’re comfortable, cool, and chic.
