Autumn de Wilde’s new film and adaption of Jane Austen’s Emma takes place in a dream pastel Georgian dollhouse that is so feminine chic. The set decorator Stella Fox, and production designer Kave Quinn, along with their teams created the most awe-inspiring 19th century, Georgian period world. When I saw the interiors of the Firle Estate after they went in and added some bright playful paint, printed wallpaper, and decor my jaw dropped.
I love a good suit, whether it be for a job interview or a day of class. Nothing feels better then putting on a suit in the morning and feeling beautiful and powerful to take on the day.
With March here and how the weather has been playing out it seems as though we will most definitely be getting an early spring. I took a jaunt through Central Park last weekend and even noticed some of the trees starting to bud, and I even spotted a cherry blossom tree near Washington Square Park last Sunday. I know it’s so cliché, but I really do feel my best when wearing floral pieces. The print makes me feel put together and beautiful, the two things I look for when purchasing any piece. So as any lover of florals is doing right now, I’m dreaming of florals for my wardrobe.
It all started after I began watching Grace and Frankie on Netflix. The costume designer, Allyson Fanger, does such a wonderful job with the wardrobe in this show. I love every characters’ unique style, and I’m especially fond of when Grace wears dress shirts or shirt dresses and pops the collar. It’s such a simple detail, but it goes such a long way. Now whenever I wear a shirt with a collar I catch myself popping it. You look sharper and chic.
Alas, it’s the last weekend of February! As I’m sure everyone usually feels, January and February can be very long, dragged out months because of the weather. But, it almost feels like we’ve been having an early spring. Although I do wear color year round, Spring is the time for pastels and when I can finally break out my floral frocks after being locked away since August.
I love myself a good hat, or fascinator if I’m feeling a bit extra. This past Spring I bought this satin rose colored Derby party hat for a fun accessory to add to my wardrobe. Don’t let the name fool you though, I most certainly just wore this hat on a day out exploring the city. I definitely want to add more “Derby style” hats to my accessories for this summer. Hats are such a fun way to experiment with different textures, colors, and styles.
When the new summer arrivals landed on the Tory Burch website this past week I immediately had to stop and go scrolling through. Whenever I see the new collections at Tory Burch it’s like a breath of fresh air. The pieces are always so clean looking, new and re-imagined, and there’s always something to love (if not multiple, or everything if you’re like me and obsessed with the Tory Burch aesthetic and lifestyle.)
When the summer months come around I always tend to gravitate towards blues. Not just in my wardrobe, but in my makeup lately as well. I tried out the L’Oreal Paris Voluminous Mascara in cobalt blue just last week and have been obsessed with it ever since. I rarely ever experiment with makeup, but I’ve been loving doing the blue mascara with an aqua eyeliner lately to add some fun to my makeup look.
They’re flooding our Instagram feeds being worn by every it-girl, the strappy 90s sandals. I got myself a pair of these from Zara this past winter to wear with socks, and I’m getting my hands on a few more just in time for summer. They come in all the summer colors we could ask for, and they hit every price point.
Over the past year I’ve seen tremendous growth overall in people being more aware of the Earth and using reusable products. States and countries are banning plastic bags and straws, which is a huge step. I came back from New York City to see my hometown had banned plastic bags, and now at every store they give out paper bags or have reusable bag options. Another thing I’ve seen more and more people doing is shopping second hand clothing and accessories. Now, I can’t deny that I used to be so iffy and “a little” grossed out about buying second hand clothing online from people I don’t know, or going into a thrift store and purchasing something.
The Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale is currently going until June 2nd, and there are so many good deals on amazing pieces that I had to do a post to round them all up for you. From my favorite Nordstrom brand Halogen, to brands like Tory Burch, J.Crew, Diane von Furstenberg, and Kate Spade, this sale has anything and everything. There are also some crazy good deals on Versace, Prada, Miu Miu, Manolo Blahnik, Jimmy Choo shoes and more!! Ladies if you want those designer heels, I’d check out this sale because your favorites may just be included!
I’m always on the hunt for new shops and designers to buy from, and with Instagram being a huge place where you can find tons of new designers daily, I take advantage of this. I recently came across Alice McCall’s Resort 2020 collection, and completely fell in love.
As Memorial Day is approaching, I can’t help but think about poolside fashion and what’s on my wishlist for this season. When May starts to come to a close, and the summer season is so close we can feel it(hopefully, I’m talking to you Mother Nature), pools start to open and it’s time to start picking out your favorite coverups, sunglasses, hats, and more to stay chic.
Although Louis Vuitton didn’t have the best dressed celebrities at this years Met Gala; a few to name are Emma Stone, Joe Jonas and Sophie Turner, and Laura Harrier. But, their Resort 2020 collection that debuted last week was great.
This past Friday Virginie Viard debuted her first solo collection for Chanel after Karl Lagerfeld’s passing in February. The Resort 2020 show had a classic Chanel feel, but I can definitely see the change that Virginie Viard is putting into action at Chanel, but change isn’t always a bad thing!
Last nights Met Gala was anything but boring, from tulle to heads and chandeliers, I’m very happy with the turnout of celebrities in actual “camp” like fashion. I normally see a sea of basic dresses that aren’t related to the theme whatsoever, but these year proved us all wrong. Of course there are still attendees that didn’t have their best dressed moment, but they were some outfits that I just can’t get enough of.
Don’t get me wrong I love a classic toe-toned shoe, but what I really love in a shoe is it’s creativeness. Shoes can do wonders for an outfit, but they can also make or break one. They are the most important part of an outfit.
Like any other season, I love to accessorize. Once spring is in full swing I love to look at my wardrobe and pair jewelry and hair accessories, along with shoes with unexpected prints and textures. Fashion is all about having fun and experimenting with different styles and mixing and matching.
Spring has officially arrived here in New York City, and I couldn’t be happier. I love walking and going to the park, and now that the weather is nice I can finally go out enjoy the city. With the spring weather I see even New Yorkers start to bring out pops of color, although for me you know every season I wear just about every color of the rainbow.
