This week I have discovered so many incredible new brands owned by Black people that I’m excited to shop now and in the future. I’ve found that over the years the statement, unique pieces I want to purchase aren’t going to be at the usual stores I frequent, and have been actively making a list of unique designers and shops since. If you love colors and prints, you’re in for a treat with these brands!
All of Autumn Adeigbo’s designs are full of color, bold, and unique. When I came across her brand this past week scrolling through the website, the clothes scream fun, girly sophistication. Autumn is a very accomplished designer and she’s been featured in Vogue, Glamour, Nylon, and more. Her designs can be found on her website, Rent The Runway, Anthropologie, along with small boutiques across the United States! Even better, all of the designs are made to order, ethically made in New York City in a female owned facility!
My favorite color combination, pink and red! All of the details, the flutter sleeves, v-neck, and peplum details are so flattering!
This skirt is a need! I love the thinner stripes paired with the thicker ones, and the lace high-low hem! Such a fun design.
Ontavia Roulette makes one of a kind looks that are innovative and elegant. She debuted her first collection at New York Fashion Week in 2017 called “Nymph’s of the Forest.” Most recently her collection “Before the Death of a Child’s imagination” was shown at NYFW in September of 2019. Her Spring/Summer 2020 collection is available for pre-order here. Along with Ontavia’s seasonal collections she also does custom clients!
What an elegant look. Of course I love the tulle, but what I like most about this look is the detailing on the top! It’s so unique. I can picture myself wearing this to the ballet.
The jewel embellishments and sheer sleeves are so beautiful on this dress. The v-neckline is also very flattering! The model’s hair is in a bun which I love because you can see the v-neckline is trimmed with the jewels as well.
Again with the tulle, it’s calling for me! This two-piece set is super chic. The scattered jewel detailing is pretty on the white tulle, and the detailing at the neckline of the top is fun!
Lillian, Lily, Eric, and nine others are all of the makers for creating pieces for Grass-Fields in the United Kingdom and Cameroon! The founders Christelle and Michele (twin sisters!) started Grass-Fields in March of 2013 designing African inspired fashion that is ethical. The pieces are in beautiful bold colors. What I love most is that the women behind Grass-Fields stress the importance of self-expression through dressing, which is a huge thing for me when I dress myself everyday. Read more about Christelle and Michele’s stories here.
I love the gathered short sleeves and tie belt. The yellow and red colors look so beautiful together. A great dress for summer that can be worn casually and dressed up.
The feathers!! Love the blue hue, and the lace with scattered embellishments is so pretty. The midi-length is flattering!
Teni, “Tia”, Adeola launched Slashed by Tia in her dorm room of The New School in the summer of 2017. She’s from Nigeria, was raised in London, and is now in New York. The Renaissance period and her love of history inspires her pieces. They are dramatic, fun, and bold.
This piece is so beautiful. Perfect for a bride, and I can see myself wearing it for a dinner look. This piece is made in collaboration with Leila Jinnah, and all the pearls were hand placed right in New York City by artisans! Due to COVID-19 if you purchase a veil you also will receive a free double cotton layered mask.
I just purchased this, because why not! This mask design is so creative and fun. I also love that it doesn’t wrap around the ears because after a while wearing a mask can start putting lots of pressure on the backs of your ears. I can’t wait to wear this when I get it, and hopefully in NYC this Autumn!
Pink Swarovski crystals? You can count me in. Such a beautiful veil. Just like the pearl veil you will receive a free double cotton layered mask with purchase, and handmade in New York! Also in collaboration with Leila Jinnah.
Dumebi Iyamah is a Nigerian fashion designer and is the woman behind Andrea Iyamah. Her designs are “inspired by colour, ethnic cultures, nature and design elements that stay true to creating authentic clothing and resort wear with hints of a retro yet contemporary edge in design.” The brand is very well-known for the swimwear but also creates ready-to-wear, resort, and custom pieces. There is also a sister brand, Andrea Iyamah Bride. They are located in Ontario, Canada and Lagos, Nigeria.
I love the pleats throughout and the layered pleating around the hips. The pear green color is stunning.
This is such a gorgeous bathing suit. I always have a hard time finding bathing suit designs that I love, but this design is stunning! This bathing suit is in a beautiful hue and is so unique.
This crepe top is so elegant and chic. I love the front slit detail, and the color is so pretty.
I’ve signed up for all the newsletters and can’t wait to hear about new collections!
