The Grand Palais was transformed into a beautiful snowy wonderland this morning for Karl Lagerfeld’s last collection with Chanel. I can’t even imagine how much emotion this day has brought to the people at Chanel, the models, and everyone attending that have memories with him. It’s an honor to attend any Chanel show, but this one definitely felt different for everyone there. Karl was honored with a moment of silence, a card was placed on every seat with an illustration by Karl of him and Coco Chanel saying “The beat goes on…”, along with a voiceover of Karl from a recent podcast.
Every season the one show that I am always anticipating is Chanel. I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, Karl does a magnificent job in taking the collections he designs and transforming the runway into a beautiful scene. You’re not only seeing Chanel clothes, but you’re seeing the clothes in an atmosphere whether that’s a Italian villa as seen at the past couture show, grocery store, space ship, and so on. It’s magical and makes you want to be a Chanel girl living in a Chanel world, I at least always feel that way.
This season featured of course the signature Chanel tweed on long coats, and I absolutely adore the trousers in houndstooth and plaid prints. The matching wide brimmed hats were a perfect touch. Chiffon blouses were paired with these heavy pieces which created a light, feminine feel that I always love with Chanel. I am also a huge fan of the tweed skirts with pants underneath that landed just below the knees, and will definitely be sporting that next fall/winter. Cozy printed sweaters were added on top of the tweeds which gave a cozy, winter cabin feel that went hand in hand with the winter scene.
The first part of the show featured darker, neutral tones, but as the show went on the color came. There were head to toe pink looks; the pink plaid one with the matching cape and belt bag is one of my favorites from the collection. Red and blue tweed suits paired with fur snow boots caught my eye as well. The show ended with what looked like a beautiful sea of snow angels. Models came down the runway in head to toe white ensembles, my favorites being the dresses featuring white fluffy fur skirts. I spotted through photos ski lift bags, and to say I need one of them is an understatement.
Thank you Karl for always bringing the Chanel collection to life and showing us all the unimaginable. Every season you gave us beautiful, awe-inspiring pieces that have left a mark on everyone in the fashion industry.
Here are some of my favorite looks from this collection
(but lets be real, all of the looks are my favorite)
