I can’t believe it’s already the end of 2018! What a year it has been, with graduating high school and starting college, it’s been a year with a lot of changes, and I can’t wait to see what 2019 brings into my life! Some big changes are happening in January that I’m nervous but so excited about, and can’t wait to share in a few weeks.
I’m really proud of what I’ve posted on my blog this year. I really worked hard to get more outfit posts up than last year, and started to show my personal style more not just in the outfits I wore, but also in the quick read posts. I set a goal at the beginning of the year, and I’m happy to say I stuck through with it, and can’t wait to share more in 2019!
I can still remember the day I started my blog, finally just saying to myself “Just do it, I’ll figure it out as I go”, and I’m so happy that I started it when I did. It was something I really needed at that time in my life; I really needed something to do, and a blog was the perfect place for me to escape and also put my creativeness and passion for fashion to the test. This blog helped me get out of the rut I was in, and I’m still so passionate about it. I truly really do love sharing my personal style and opinions about fashion on here.
I’m so grateful for everyone that takes the time to read my posts. It really means a lot to me that you all take the time to click and read, I can’t explain how much it means to me. 2019 is going to bring so many great things to Petunia’s Picks.
Here’s my Year in Review post of 2017
Here are my best outfits of 2018
My favorite midi dress of 2018! I don’t have anything in this color in my closet, and the fit is stunning. I love the asymmetrical ruffle hem of the dress, and the off the shoulder detailing is so flattering.
My absolute favorite dress, and one that I had been dreaming of wearing for years! I remember looking at this dress my sophomore year of high school wanting to wear it to my Junior prom, but ended up not being available in my size anywhere! All turned out well as I loved my junior social dress, and it was the perfect dress for the occasion. The next year when I started looking for my prom, I saw they updated the version of the out of stock red full piece, and made it into a two-piece! I actually never ended up trying on the two-piece before buying it, I went to a prom store and tried on the black full piece version just to be sure I still loved it as much as I thought, and I was sold immediately and ordered it that day.
At the beginning of 2018, Gal Meets Glam announced that they’d be launching a dress line, and this was the first dress that was shown. I knew right away that it would be my graduation dress. I’m not one for blending in and wearing a white dress like most, if not all, do on their graduation day, so I decided to be myself. I absolutely love this dress and it’s one I will wear for years. This dress has the most stunning neckline, and the tie waist bow is just the icing on the cake. The length is perfect, and of course it’s in my favorite color, pink with a fade-like floral design that’s like no other.
It wouldn’t be a best looks of the year post without a mixed print look, and this one surely doesn’t disappoint. My favorite thing about this look was that I hadn’t imagined it in my head, I was just going through my clothes putting pieces together, and happened to notice that the purple in this shirt perfectly matched the purple in this skirt. It’s moments like these where I realize how much I do love putting together looks and trying out new things. There are really no limits with fashion, which is why I truly love fashion.
An eye-catching dress if I do say so myself. Summer style is so fun because you get to play around with so many different designs and styles of dresses, and all the colors in this one make it a perfect summer dress for an event. I haven’t worn it out to an event yet, but I’m looking forward to next summer, because if I have an event to go to I’ll definitely be considering this dress.
Tweed will always remind me of my favorite luxury brand, Chanel. It’s definitely one of my wardrobe staples, I can’t go a season without wear it! Something about the chic look of it, along with the often use of many colors in one design makes it so interesting and fun to wear. This look is one of my favorites not only because of the tweed, but because the headband and romper match perfectly, despite being from two different stores, and not even bought at the same time! I got them weeks apart, and it took me a while to realize that they are the perfect match.
When I got my hands on this coat I was so happy; the thing I learned most about my style this year is that I really do love a put together, preppy-like look. No matter how hard I tried in previous years to try and go for that lazy but cute, trendy look, I never really felt like myself. I feel like my true self put together, in a head to toe matching look, and this look is just that.
If fall were a look, this would be it. Orange hues, red, and brown all together really bring a fall vibe into a look. I discovered colored tights this year, and my fall/winter looks have now been changed forever. Long ago were the days of just plain black tights, as I now find myself reaching for pinks, greens, purples, and even lace tights. This look was just the beginning of it all! (lol)
Oh tulle, how I love you. This year my other all time favorite blogger, Blair Eadie of Atlantic Pacific partnered with Nordstrom and came out with an extraordinary (I’m not exaggerating) collection. This skirt was definitely my most out-of-the-box purchase of 2018! The color, length, and fit of the skirt is perfection. I’d never owned a tulle skirt before, so when this one came in the mail it changed my life(hahaha.) Beware, you will be seeing more tulle in 2019.
Bows, bows, bows. This look is another result of my realization that I love a completely put together look, and of course with bows. This is my favorite blouse in my closet, I mean how couldn’t it be with the velvet pink bows and pearls?!!
What a lovely dress to spend the holidays, and even winter in! This beautiful satin finish pink dress has a stunning high neckline that’s flattering on everyone, an oversized bow, and wait, it gets better, pockets!! The toe-toned trim detailing is divine.
It has been a great year for Petunia’s Picks. I decided to change the name of the blog from just my name to something different, as I always intended on changing the name, but just wanted to get it started and knew I would end up figuring it out before I hit 3 years (almost two years in January!!) My mom and dad always called me Petunia when I was younger, and when I was going through names, Petunia’s Picks just stuck. I wanted something different from everyone else, something that stands out from the rest.
I hope you all have marvelous New Year, and thank you so much from the bottom of my heart for all the support, Xoxo MRJ
